Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or related field preferred.
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain School Director certification through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission (12 NCAC 09B .0501).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of law enforcement experience required.
  • Must hold current certification as a General Instructor through the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Prior experience teaching or directing a BLET program preferred.
  • Experience coordinating or managing in-service, detention, telecommunicator, or other mandated training programs preferred.

Position Description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Public Safety Program Coordinator provides leadership, administration, and oversight for the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program, in-service training programs, and all North Carolina Training and Standards Commission–mandated law enforcement training programs at Sampson Community College. This includes, but is not limited to, Speed Measurement Instruments (SMI), Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC), Telecommunicator Certification Course (TCC), and other state-required certification and continuing education programs.

This position ensures compliance with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission (NCCJETS), North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission, North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and applicable regulatory requirements, while advancing program quality, student success, and strong partnerships with local law enforcement and public safety agencies throughout Sampson County and surrounding areas.
