Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution along with two years of Case Management or Human Services experience is required. A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with one year of Case Management or Human Services experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities, along with proficiency in maintaining records and files with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel Spreadsheets, and data entry into a browser-based Data Management System is expected. Must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, along with the ability to identify community resources and analyze test data while interpreting results. Must have experience working with disadvantaged populations as well as having extensive interpersonal skills for interacting with justice-involved individuals, fellow staff, and external agencies. Travel to off campus sites, including but not limited to a Department of Adult Correction facility, is required; as well as a valid North Carolina driver’s license with a driving record sufficient to be covered under the Wayne Community College auto policy. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, is also expected. A National Career Readiness and Peer Support Specialist Certification is preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Position Description

Primary responsibilities include meeting with individuals who are currently incarcerated or justice-involved to determine program eligibility, conduct assessments, and begin a plan for services upon release. Responsible for coordinating and tracking the educational, vocational, and other non-treatment needs of individuals who are transitioning back into the community. Perform regular visits with incarcerated individuals to prepare a transition plan prior to release. Assist individuals in making a successful transition back into the community by providing support and guidance. Assist participants in creating a plan of action, monitoring their progress, along with follow-ups until completion of the plan. Schedule appointments with community providers. Cultivate and educate a pool of potential employability training, job seeking resources and job coaching assistance to individuals with a criminal history. Develop and maintain a list of employers who are willing to hire justice-involved individuals. Input/track all participant data and services provided by utilizing the Unite Us case management and data collection software system. Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
