Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities operations, campus security, risk management, or related areas, including supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and risk assessment. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. Excellent communication, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education environment or large public institution. Knowledge of NC community college regulations and public construction project management. Experience working with NC State Construction Office. Certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Project Management Professional (PMP), or Certified Risk Manager (CRM).

The Senior Director of Facilities, Safety, and Risk is responsible for the strategic leadership, coordination, and oversight of all campus infrastructure and operations at Nash Community College. This includes the departments of Security/Police, Facilities Management, Groundskeeping, Maintenance, Construction Projects, the Conference Center, and institutional insurance programs related to property, liability, and operational risk. The Senior Director ensures a safe, efficient, and well-maintained campus environment that supports the College’s mission, students, staff, and community engagement.

Essential Responsibilities

Facilities Oversight:

  • Oversee daily operations of all campus facilities, including maintenance, repairs, renovations, custodial services, and groundskeeping.
  • Lead energy management, preventive maintenance, and sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure all buildings and grounds are compliant with ADA, OSHA, fire code, and other applicable regulations.

Campus Safety & Security:

  • Ensure emergency preparedness, response planning, and campus-wide safety protocols.
  • Oversee safety audits and drills.
  • Responsible for overall safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and NCC’s physical assets including: contracting for public safety services; contracting for electronic security monitoring; contracting for electronic fire alarm monitoring; securing insurance coverage for loss or damage to property.

Construction & Capital Projects:

  • Lead planning and execution of new construction, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Manage contractor relationships, project timelines, budgets, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as construction coordinator when either acquiring or constructing capital assets; responsible for compliance with all procedures relative to acquiring capital assets; and serves as liaison with architects, contractors, and engineers during all phases of capital planning and construction.

Risk Management & Insurance:

  • Oversee all property, casualty, liability, and related non-personnel insurance coverage.
  • Assess, mitigate, and monitor operational risks across campus.

Conference Center Oversight:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the College’s conference center, including event planning, operations, and facility use policies.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets for facilities, security, construction, and risk management operations.
  • Oversee procurement for relevant departments and ensure cost-effective resource use.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Supervise the Director of Facilities, Master Gardener, Safety Director/Chief of Campus Police, and the Conference Center Manager, including hiring, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Other Duties:

  • Serve as a key member of the College’s emergency response and crisis management team.
  • Represent the College in meetings with contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain regular on-site attendance during normal hours of college operations consistent with expectations and College policies and procedures.
  • Participate in College events and activities.
  • Initiate and answer telephone calls and video conference calls
  • Perform other duties as assigned which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of NCC.
  • Participate in professional development activities provided by NCC
  • Serve on various committees as assigned
  • Participate in and support ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation to improve student learning.
