- Unrestricted licensure as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- In pursuit of the North Carolina Board of Nursing rule: 21 NCAC 36 .0318 FACULTY
If the faculty does not hold a graduate degree- before or within the first three years of employment- and has education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if the employing organization is changed. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses;
- Completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
- Nine semester hours of graduate coursework in adult learning and learning principles;
- National certification in nursing education;
- Documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the board. Criteria for approval shall include content in the faculty role in the curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance; or
- Individuals with prior teaching experience in an academic setting seeking a faculty position shall be evaluated by the program director to assess each individual’s prior teaching experience commensurate with formal education in teaching and learning principles for adult education including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to faculty assignment
- Criteria for approval include content in the faculty role within the curriculum implementation, objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population and expectations of student and faculty performance.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) calendar years of full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
- Minimum of two (2) years of current teaching experience with appropriate clinical supervisory skills in the Durham Technical Community College Associate Degree program;
- Background experience in the area of Medical-Surgical, Maternal-Child, and/or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience teaching and coordinating simulation activities.

Description
Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a Simulation Coordinator/Instructor for the Associate Degree Nursing Department. The Instructor for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is primarily responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings. This role also includes providing related services and support activities to ensure optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As a member of the ADN faculty, the Instructor will assist and support the director and/or department dean, as needed, in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department, and division.
Examples of Duties
Instructor – Associate Degree Nursing Duties:
- Teach a minimum load of 15-18 contact hours per semester in a flexible schedule as determined by the needs of the program and as approved by the Dean, Health and Wellness.
- Have instructional plans prepared for each class session and in accordance with the stated objectives of the course.
- Enforce academic policy and procedures at all times and comply with all other institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom/clinical instruction and general employment.
- Be available out of class to students requiring additional assistance.
- Serve as educational advisor to students, as formally required and as otherwise requested or needed by individual students.
- Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation required to meet program objectives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of competency-based education and utilize available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials.
- Assist the program director in the identification, preview and acquisition of needed educational resources, including textbook selection, library materials, laboratory supplies, and other instructional provisions.
- Participate in registration activities, as assigned, and assist in the recruitment of students and in the placement of graduates.
10. Participate in program, departmental, divisional and instructional meetings and other announced activities.
11. Maintain complete office and student records, as needed; process reports, forms, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data.
12. Fulfill committee assignments and other special appointments within the educational community as well as the community-at-large, and otherwise give appropriate support to institutional endeavors.
13. Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the program, department, division, and College.
14. Take advantage of in-service training and other opportunities for continued professional development, including attendance at off-campus activities, as feasible, and generally staying abreast of developments in the field of instruction.
15.Maintain proper communication and supportive relations at all times with all other units and branches of the division and the College, provide assistance to them in carrying out their respective functions.
