Position Description
Under the direction of the Dean of Business, performs professional level coordinative program duties in the administration and development of educational, training, and consultative services to small businesses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates need assessment for services with potential or current business owners and operators. Develops courses, workshops, seminars, and other educational efforts based on these needs.
- Hires instructors, schedules courses, and provides publicity for the Small Business Center.
- Assists instructors with lesson plans, course outlines, and records that must be kept.
- Counsels’ owners and operators of proposed and existing businesses on a variety of issues, situations, and problems; assists them with determining and selecting options for their respective businesses.
- Organizes and provides contacts for a network of business owners and operators or other resources for businesses.
- Completes records and forms for SBC activities.
- Develops, monitors, and compiles evaluations of courses, seminars, and workshops.
- Compiles various reports and processes necessary forms and planning documents to support program efforts.
- Obtains necessary materials and supplies for program efforts and activities.
- Provides and projects budget information as requested and needed by the Dean.
- Serves on a variety of committee and community organizations.
Knowledge of
- Principles and practices of PC’s and related software.
- Considerable knowledge of business plans, trends, practices, and economic conditions affecting small businesses.
- Financing, taxation, personnel, and related issues for small business owners and operators.
- Needs assessments and evaluation of courses and activities.
- Education theories, practices, and methods of teaching and course design.
- Organizational, planning, and administrative skills to coordinate a variety of seminars, courses, workshops, and activities for small businesses.
Ability to
- Provide technical leadership in Small Business Center operations.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Operate a PC and related software.
- Coordinate a variety of courses and activities simultaneously.
- Plan, organize, and staff a variety of seminars, courses, and activities.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community organizations, business owners and operators, and the public.
- Provide counseling services for small business owners and operators; determine options available; and allow owners/operators to make the final decision regarding businesses.
