The Purpose
The Success Coach & Advisor serves as the main point of contact for an assigned group of students to guide them to achieve academic success. The Coach/Advisor works to advise, counsel, motivate, assess student needs, goals, and interests, review prior academic experience. The coach/advisor will use predictive analytical data to provide targeted outreach efforts to students who fall into an at-risk category. Coaches provide a high level of customer service support and ensure students are made aware of all available college resources to assist them in achieving academic success. This position works in a cross-disciplinary team with multiple College stakeholders from Health Sciences, College Transfer, Student Services, and will work at all campus locations/campuses.

What You’ll be Doing
- Work with the Director of Enrollment Management and other college success coaches to create and implement a success Coaching program that builds rapport and increases student retention and completion
- Maintain an advising caseload of assigned students. Use predictive analytics to identify barriers to success, persistence, and completion and create individualized guided pathways for students to help them complete their goals.
- Work in a cross-disciplinary team with multiple College stakeholders from Health Sciences, College Transfer located at all campus locations/campuses.
- Provide proactive and individualized success coaching to a student caseload facilitated by an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics
- Identify and provide proactive outreach to at risk students connecting them to intentional intervention and student support activities.
- Design high-tech, high-touch supports utilizing Watermark SS&E(formerly Aviso)
- Empower caseload of students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services and become better connected to resources and support services such as financial aid, career services,student accessibility services and community resources.
- Work with appropriate personnel to develop coaching resources
- Participate in training and other professional development activities
- Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function
- Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
- Serve on College-wide committees as needed.
- Support students to complete the nursing program application process as needed. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with transfer institutions to ensure appropriate pre-nursing advising.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of advising documents, processes, and procedures.
- Evaluate, assess and implement pre-nursing advising efforts at BRCC. Work closely with department deans, directors and student services to determine advising needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field. Preferred Master’s degree in counseling, higher ed, or related field OR bachelor’s degree plus at least three years of related experience
Experience
Min. one year of experience in counseling, advising, or related area, required; experience working in community college or higher education setting preferred. All persons must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a work-place setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment. Experience and use of best practices in advising required.
Skills and the Know-How
Current knowledge in the field. Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, Content Management Systems (CMS), College email and website, web-based computer applications associated with the position.
- Excellent counseling skills for use in the educational setting to include, career, crisis, diversity and sensitivity issues, and general admissions counseling
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work with a diverse population of students, parents, co-workers, or outside agencies
- Ability to multi-task to meet the demands of a high advising load
- A student-centered customer service attitude is required
- A positive attitude with a real enjoyment of the challenge of working toward positive outcomes
- Maintain a flexible schedule which may include some evenings, weekends, and travel
- Ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team with multiple College stakeholders
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.
Physical Demands
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
