Minimum Qualifications

  • One or more years of experience in a higher education and/or counseling setting
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

  • North Carolina Board Certified: Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) / Associate (LCMHCA) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) / Associate (LCSWA)
  • Three or more years of experience in a higher education setting
  • One or more years of experience in an academic advising setting

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support and Learning Resources and the Mental Health Coordinator, the Success Coach/ Mental Health Specialist serves as a success coach to caseload of students, helping students develop academic and career plans, assisting students with registration, and mentoring students to resolve barriers to their success. The Success Coach assists the Mental Health Coordinator in planning of mental health events and in promoting the use of our mental health platforms and services.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Counsel students in developing career, success, and academic plans
  • Assist Mental Health Coordinator with the promotion of mental health resources provided by the College and helps to plan mental health education events and campaigns
  • Monitor students’ academic progress, providing success coaching services to resolve academic and personal barriers to their success 
  • Provide outreach and support to at-risk students and students in crisis, encouraging participation in coaching appointments, use of mental health platforms, and other means of intentional intervention 
  • Engage with students using a proactive appreciative advising model to promote success facilitated by the College’s online academic alert and planning systems, and update student’s record to document interactions
  • Encourage student engagement on campus, including student leadership, mentoring, and career exploration opportunities
  • Participate in college-wide programs, services, and activities that promote the growth of the College
  • Participate in open house, orientation, and other student services activities that may include periodic evening and weekend events
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge of current academic success, counseling, and advising trends
  • Serve on committees and assist with any other duty as required
