Position Description
GENERAL FUNCTION
Under general direction, performs a variety of technical duties by providing technical support including coordination, maintenance, upgrades and overall support for computer systems; administers, evaluates and modifies systems to assure proper security and operation; plans, coordinates, and implements system software program release changes for enterprise servers; resolves technology problems and provides for system enhancements; provides technical support and assistance to clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and maintains Red Hat, Windows, and other servers. Systems include physical servers and VMs in the college’s virtual environment.
- Ensures the security and backup of data as per college retention policy and assists in administration of backup appliances and services including firewall and intrusion protection.
- Researches and evaluates College Information Systems (CIS) hardware and software requirements; configures, installs and maintains CIS software to support and ensure day-to-day operations of Datatel Colleague and related systems.
- Develops and maintains data feeds to support various software services and college needs.
- Plans and coordinates the installation of new releases and system software updates for Colleges CIS system, servers in the virtual environment and AWS environment. Analyzes impacts of software updates and research solutions to problems.
- Confers with program product vendors regarding new product releases and for problem resolutions. Plans and coordinates the installation of new releases and system software updates for various college systems and servers. Analyzes impacts of software updates and research solutions to problems.
- Evaluates, recommends, implements, and ensures systems security at the server level and, in conjunction with the network security administrator, network and desktop administrators, across the entire college IT infrastructure.
- Provide support and back up to the network security administrator, and the network infrastructure administrator.
- Prepares client, operations, and systems documentation according to pre-established standards.
- Assist in evaluating equipment and software capability in the college IT infrastructure; researches and resolves problems; makes technical recommendations.
- Schedule may shift to accommodate non-business hours for system updates and patches as required. This also could include emergency availability to restore systems in the event of unplanned outages.
