Minimum Qualifications
- Current Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification
- Certification through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license with a driving record that meets the insurability requirements under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and required medical and psychological evaluations
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Prior law enforcement experience
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
Position Description
To ensure the safety and security of the college community, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Sworn Officers enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as campus policies and regulations, while fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment. Through patrols, emergency response, crime prevention, and community engagement, officers protect life and property, deter criminal activity, and promote a secure learning environment. Wayne Community College Police Officers are expected to act with integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment, serving as trusted members of the campus community and contributing to the overall mission of the institution.
