5 years of various welding experiences; GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, plasma cutting and torch.

Successful completion of a professional welding course.

Complete the NCCER Instructor Training course within 90 days of employment.

Position Description

Occupational Summary

The primary role of a Workforce Development Welding Instructor is to focus on academic excellence, student success, and encourage lifelong learning. This is accomplished through working collaboratively with College stakeholders to support the mission of the College.  Instructors ensure the quality and integrity of the College’s academic programs through teaching, student learning and professional development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Implements a comprehensive curriculum for welding courses according to the standards of National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
  • Conducts theory and practical welding classes
  • Assesses and evaluates students’ welding skills and knowledge
  • Ensures all students adhere to safety protocols and procedures
  • Provides hands-on training in various welding techniques and processes
  • Maintains and supervises the use of welding equipment and tools
  • Stays updated with the latest advancements in welding technology and practices provided by NCCER
  • Demonstrates and uses technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience 
  • Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Prepares students for welding certification exams
  • Offers individualized guidance and support to students as needed
  • Organizes and supervises lab sessions and practical projects
  • Collaborates with industry professionals to support possible employment opportunities for those students’ completing courses
  • Facilitates workshops and additional training sessions as required
  • Creates student NCCER accounts, profiles, documents and tracks students’ progress and performance according to NCCER guidelines
  • Communicates with the NCCER coordinator as needed
  • Ensures a clean and organized instructional environment
  • Participates in departmental meetings and professional development opportunities
  • Works with other Workforce Development welding instructors to maintain classroom and lab continuity
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone, and email
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

  • Familiarity with various welding certifications and standards
  • Proficiency in a range of welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick)
  • Strong understanding of welding theory and principles
  • Adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodologies

  • Demonstrated understanding of advising and competency-based learning
