Hurricane Florence had a devastating effect on southeastern North Carolina, and our community colleges in the region are also reeling. Many have been closed for multiple weeks.
The greatest toll is on our students. Some lost homes. Some lost jobs. There is concern that many won’t be able to continue their studies.
In the storm’s aftermath, people have reached out to the NC Community College System asking how they could help.
In cooperation with the NC Community Colleges Foundation, the sytem launched a relief fund to help our community college family. All of the contributions will be distributed to colleges affected by Hurricane Florence to supplement their emergency grant programs.
There are many positive ways to help victims of the storm, but this is the only statewide effort solely dedicated to North Carolina’s community colleges.
