RALEIGH – The State Board of Community Colleges welcomed two new members during its July 18 meeting. Ernest C. Pearson of Holly Springs and La’Quon A. Rogers of Ayden received the oath of office from North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jackson.
Pearson, an appointee of the North Carolina House, is an economic development attorney with Nexsen Pruet. He will serve five years of a six-year term, filling the seat held by Will Collins, who resigned in December to accept a position in the NC Department of Commerce. Rogers is the 2014-15 North Carolina Community College Comprehensive Student Government President and will serve on the Board for one year as an ex-officio member.
In other business, the State Board approved Dr. Dennis King as the next president of Asheville-Buncombe Community College, and Dr. William Aiken as interim president of Rockingham Community College.
