It has been times in my life that victory and self-esteem eluded me. Nothing I tried worked. I was starting to think happiness and success wasn’t meant for me. All of my peers had moved on in life and started careers and families, living their life to the fullest. On the other hand, I had suffered a few bad breaks that basically left me trying just figure out how to make ends meet. I felt like a failure, like life had passed me by. In short, I felt like a loser. That’s when I decided to go back to school.
I chose Edgecombe Community College as the school I would attend. It has been in this process that I’ve realized, there was a winner in me all along. I was elected and have served two terms as Student Government President. I serve honorably as a Student Ambassador. I’ve been inducted into the Honor society, and in my second year of studies, I won a national award for public speaking. A national award! Wow! It has been in this process that I’ve found happiness, success, family, and my self-esteem. Thanks to Edgecombe Community College, I’ve finally found the winner in me.
