Charles Oliver

I came to Sandhills Community College in 2010 when I entered the polysomnography program.  Due to the downturn in the economy, I was a displaced worker.  SCC provided me with a fresh start and a new beginning.  As I began taking courses, I became aware of a passion that I did not know I had.  I realized that I loved learning and helping people.  My chosen field was giving me a new way to help people.  Instead of building homes, I was going to be helping people build healthy minds and bodies.

Sandhills has provided me with excellent learning opportunities.  The instructors at SCC truly care about my success. They provide quality instruction and support for my endeavors outside the classroom.  With the support of the polysomnography program coordinator, another student and I founded a program newspaper, “Goodnight Gazette”.   I have also joined the North Carolina Academy of Sleep Medicine as a student member to begin forging professional relationships.

I feel like I have lived two lives in one lifetime.  I intend to take full advantage of the opportunities my education at Sandhills Community College has given me and I aspire to continue my education in a related medical field.
