I started my journey at Haywood Community College when I was a sophomore at Tuscola High School. I was interested in Criminal Justice so I enrolled in the Huskins Program at the college which made it possible to still attend my high school classes but also come to Haywood Community College to start my degree in Criminal Justice. I was able to continue in the Huskins Program until I was a senior in high school. I decided that I would enjoy having a career as a Cosmetologist, so I enrolled in Haywood Community College's Cosmetology.

In Cosmetology I learned something new every day. I was elected by all the cosmetology students for Vice President of the Future Cosmetologist of America. In the 2011 Cosmetic Art competition, I along with two of my teammates took home 2nd place in the fantasy category.

I have graduated from the Cosmetology diploma program.  However, I have decided to continue going to school to finish my Associate Degree in Cosmetology along with my Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. It has been a great honor to receive the North Carolina Academic Excellence Award.  For the past few years that I have attended Haywood Community College I have become more educated and learned some life lessons as well. Some of the lessons I have learned are:  Confidence can change everything, nothing is impossible and last but definitely not least, you can do anything that you set your mind to!
