My name is Kyrian Scott. I am thankful to be Halifax Community College’s nominee for The Great Within the 58. I previously attended another institution, but was not ready for college at the time and never earned GPA over 2.0. When I came to Halifax Community College, I told myself that I was going to improve and represent myself, my town, and my family.  

I am a full-time student with a 4.0 GPA in all of the courses I have taken at HCC and I work two jobs. I have work study in the bookstore and tutor on campus. I enjoy tutoring because I am able to reach back and help my peers succeed. Currently, I am the Vice President of the P.R.I.D.E. male mentoring program on campus.  The P.R.I.D.E. program has opened my eyes to the importance of staying focused and working hard for the future that I want for myself.  Also, I attended the MAN-Up conference in Phoenix, Arizona, and it was amazing. The Conference allowed me to see the doors of opportunities available to a person with a two year degree in Computer Information Technology.
