As a single mother of three children, I always knew that my high school diploma was never going to be enough. High school was always a challenge for me, so the idea of college was daunting. Knowing things would never change unless I tried, I decided to register for classes at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. At first, I was afraid of attending classes as I was older and thought I would feel out of place. I quickly began to discover the resources that were available to help me at the college; everything from tutoring to healthcare. After my first semester, I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa, and my life changed. I began to understand that in the right learning environment anyone can succeed.
