Sampson Community College student, Shonita Vann, has been chosen to receive the Academic Excellence Award for the 2013-2014 academic year. Mrs. Vann is currently enrolled in Sampson Community College's School-Age Education program. With an overall grade point average of 3.8, she is slated to graduate in May 2014.
After being a stay-at-home mom for three years, Mrs. Vann made the decision to return to SCC to purse an education degree. With the support of her family, Shonita was able to return to college and make her dreams of becoming a teacher a reality. Mrs. Vann serves as a student Ambassador, she holds a 4.0 grade point average in her academic major, and received the “Lamp of Learning” award during the Spring 2013 semester. Mrs. Vann has also been the recipient of various scholarships. She plans to attend Fayetteville State University in the Fall of 2014 to obtain a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and obtain her North Carolina teaching license.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the recipient of this award on behalf of SCC. The educational principles that I have mastered will facilitate my success as an elementary teacher.” Mrs. Vann stated.
