For Veterans

Registered Apprenticeship Programs are qualified training programs for use with your GI Bill. This means that you can receive a tax-free housing stipend and potentially other benefits to help bridge your income needs while you train in your new civilian occupation.

Who is Eligible?

Honorably Separated or Retired Service Members

National Guardsmen and Reservists

Survivors and Dependents of eligible service members

How it Works

Veterans may apply for GI Bill benefits if they meet the criteria:

  • GI Bill benefits can be applied to VA-approved Registered Apprenticeship Programs.
  • Veterans receive a monthly housing allowance while in a Registered Apprenticeship, based on E4/E5 pay scales.
  • Employers must register their Apprenticeship with the VA for apprentices to access GI Bill benefits.

Using Your GI Bill Benefits

Veterans may apply for GI Bill benefits if they meet the following criteria:

  • They are not receiving wages at the fully trained rate for their apprenticeship occupation.
  • They are employed by a company with a Registered Apprenticeship or on-the-job learning program.
  • They must be officially registered as an apprentice or trainee with their employer.

These benefits can provide a monthly housing allowance while you train in a high-demand career, easing the transition to civilian life.
