New Funding Opportunity for Registered Apprentices: Short-Term Workforce Development Grant

Published: July 17, 2025
ApprenticeshipNC is excited to share a new funding opportunity available to Registered Apprentices. The Short-Term Workforce Development Grant (STWD) provides financial assistance for students enrolled in skills training programs at any of North Carolina’s 58 community colleges. While this grant has been available for several years, it was recently expanded to include Registered Apprentices who are actively participating in a Registered Apprenticeship Program and are enrolled in Workforce Continuing Education courses as part of their related instruction.
Eligible apprentices can receive grant funds of up to $750 per course to cover training expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, and childcare.
We encourage you to reach out to your ApprenticeshipNC regional consultant to discuss how this opportunity may benefit your program. If you’re unsure who your consultant is, you can find a list by county at the following link: Contact – NCCCS. You may also reach out to the Workforce and Continuing Education department at your local community college for assistance.
Linked here is a one-page flyer outlining eligibility criteria, the application process, and other important information.
