Outline of Curriculum Standard Revisions

 Advertising and Graphic Design (A30100)

 Revisions:

  • Changed the name of the program from “Advertising and Graphic Design” to “Graphic Design.
  • Revised pathway description to reflect changes in the graphic design industry and more modern graphic design practices.
  • Removed “Drawing” as a required subject area.
  • Added “GRD 154 Vector Imaging Software and GRD 155 Publication Design” as a set in OR options under Required Courses: Computer Design/Computer Graphics area.

  • Added additional prefixes to Other Major Hours.

Rationale of Requesting College:

During the 2023 NCCCS Graphic Design Program Alignment Retreat in May 2023, it was determined that state level program changes would better align with 21st century industry standards and positively impact student completion and success. In October 2023, the Curriculum Course Review Committee approved the revision of several courses for the program. To complete the alignment, the college is requesting changes to the curriculum standard.

Program Revision: Biotechnology (A20100) Programs Archived:  Agricultural Biotechnology (A20110), Bioprocess Technology (A50440), Biopharmaceutical Technology (A20180) and Marine Biotechnology (A20170) curriculum standards.

 Revisions:

  • Changed Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) Code for Biotechnology (A20100) from “26.1201” to “41.0101”.
  • Revised Biotechnology (A20100) “Pathway Description”.
  • Added Subject Area Descriptions for “Bioanalytical Lab Technology” and “Bioprocess Manufacturing Technology”.
  • Changed the required SHC in the Technical Core from 24-28 SHC to 28-30 SHC for the AAS and from 12-16 SHC to 12 SHC for the diploma.
  • Added “Bioanalytical Lab Technology” and “Bioprocess Manufacturing Technology” as new subject areas.
  • Removed ACC, AQU, CIV, CTC, FOR, GEL, GIS, LID, MSC, WEB as prefixes in “Other Major Hours”.
  • Added ATR, BPM, EGR, ELC, ELN, HTO, HYD, MCO, MLT, MNT, OMT, PCI, PTC as prefixes in “Other Major Hours”.

Rationale of Requesting College:

The Biotechnology Alignment Project seeks to improve the curriculum standards for the Agricultural Biotechnology (A20110), Biotechnology (A20100), Marine Biotechnology (A20170), Bioprocess Technology (A50440), and Biopharmaceutical Technology (A20180) programs by focusing on improving student experiences in preparation for Biotechnology and Life Science professions and careers in North Carolina. Representatives from each of the 14 colleges offering or soon planning to offer these programs, BioNetwork, and the Capstone Center were invited to participate in the project. Community college representatives, BioNetwork, and the NCCCS office have collaborated to propose improvements to better serve our students and meet the needs of employers in North Carolina based on the feedback and recommendations of the Biotechnology industry, university partners, and our students.

Veterinary Medical Technology (A45780)

Revisions:

  • Removed WBL-112 from the Required Courses List.
  • Created a new pick list for Work-Based Learning with an option to select 2 SHC from the list.
  • Added WBL-111, WBL-112, and WBL-121 as course options under the Work-Based Learning pick list.
  • Make editorial changes to the curriculum standard for clarification.

Rationale of Requesting College:

The proposed changes provide students flexibility and options when selecting Work-Based Learning courses. Colleges have the option to continue offering the same courses they are currently offering. The proposed editorial changes are for clarification.
