The Honorable Terry Van Duyn

After 20 years working in IT, Van Duyn moved to Asheville where she became very involved with the non-profit community in Western North Carolina. She serves on the Boards of the Autism Society of North Carolina, the UNC-Asheville Foundation, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and others. Through her non-profit work, she became aware of the impact public policy has on the lives of people in her community and felt compelled to run for public office. She was appointed to the NC Senate to represent District 49 after the death of Sen. Martin Nesbitt and was elected in her own right in 2014. She served 3+ terms in the NC Senate, including 2 as Democratic Whip. She has always been a strong conduit between her local community college and the General Assembly. Her commitment to public education has been recognized by a number of statewide organizations.
