Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years’ experience working with adults diagnosed with I/DD within an educational environment
  • Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional
  • North Carolina Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work additional hours including weekends as needed due to special events and meeting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working at a NC community college.
  • Experience with national accreditation process for I/DD programs.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:                      

The director is responsible for the administration of various services for adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities through the Brunswick Community College Interagency Program. These services include adult education, vocational training, supported employment, long-term support, and day support services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Oversees program’s budget, contracts, state funded services, local partnerships, NCDHSR facility license, and national accreditation efforts
  • Administration of 14 adult education classes, serving approximately 120 students. Participates in weekly meetings with students and their parents/guardians to develop goals/objectives.
  • Provides presentations and public information sessions to citizens and potential students each semester.
  • Identifies, purchases and implements age-appropriate course materials for adults with I/DD functioning on the lowest levels of adult literacy. Approves lesson plans, field trip requests relating to educational curriculum.
  • Reviews a variety of reports and documents related to attendance, risk assessments, participant progress, and academic progress reports. This review includes student charts, incident reports, academic work, social / educational histories, pre and post-test scores, quality improvement projects, lesson plans, etc.
  • Supervise program coordinators, instructors, retention specialists, job coaches, and day support technicians.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of online platforms – Trillium’s Provider Direct system, NCDVR Encore, Colleague.
  • Approves timesheets, rosters, contracts, attendance sheets, travel requests, mileage sheets, leave slips, letters, price quotes, and purchase orders monthly.
  • Prepares confidential statements, reports to partnering agencies, job descriptions, evaluations, memos, budgets, grants, travel routes, travel requests, requisitions, etc.
  • Fosters relationships that expand employment crew contracts and vocational opportunities for students.
