Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in Medical Assisting or a related healthcare field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
- Minimum of three years of experience in the healthcare field, including at least forty (40) hours of experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing both administrative and clinical procedures typically carried out by medical assistants.
- Completion of at least ten (10) documented hours of instruction in educational theory and techniques, including (but not limited to) learning theory, curriculum design, test construction, teaching methodologies, and student evaluation. Instruction may be demonstrated through coursework, workshops/seminars, or in-service training.
- Teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational or technical education.
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain it throughout employment.
- Ability to maintain active membership with the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in program administration within a medical assisting or allied health education setting.
- Teaching experience in a medical assisting program at the postsecondary or college level.
- Proficiency in the use of technology for instructional and administrative purposes, including:
- Course preparation and curriculum development using digital tools.
- College database systems for student registration and academic management
- Learning management systems (LMS) and other platforms used for online or hybrid instruction.
Position Description
-
Under limited supervision, the Medical Assisting Program Director is responsible for the comprehensive management of the Medical Assisting program. This includes overseeing its organization, administration, planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement to ensure program effectiveness. The director also supervises clinical activities, develops and updates course content, delivers instruction, and assesses student performance across a range of Medical Assisting courses. Additionally, this role includes the supervision of adjunct faculty within the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan, direct, and participate in the instruction of Medical Assisting courses and clinical experiences; teach assigned courses and coordinate curriculum and program activities.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with college priorities and student needs.
- Coordinate and maintain program accreditation through the American Association of Medical Assisting (AAMA) Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); prepare required reports and ensure timely submission of all documentation.
- Oversee ongoing program assessment and evaluation; ensure compliance with AAMA/CAAHEP accreditation standards and North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) requirements.
- Develop, administer, and monitor the program budget; make recommendations for staffing, equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate adjunct and clinical instructors; provide orientation, conduct faculty meetings, and ensure instructional quality across all delivery formats.
- Select, approve, and maintain strong relationships with clinical/practicum sites; manage all site agreements and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Coordinate student recruitment, retention, and outreach initiatives; collaborate with Institutional Advancement to develop marketing materials, promotional campaigns, and media communications.
- Maintain accurate records of classroom and clinical instruction, student performance, and post-graduation employment outcomes in accordance with national standards and NCCCS guidelines.
- Oversee curriculum development, revision, and review in collaboration with faculty and advisory committees.
- Serve as liaison to the Medical Assisting Program Advisory Committee; coordinate meetings and incorporate feedback into program planning and improvement.
- Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and the public; resolve concerns and provide program-related guidance as needed.
- Attend required meetings and professional development activities as mandated by accrediting bodies, clinical partners, College administration, or Human Resources.
- Support and supervise relevant student extracurricular activities; attend graduation and other College-sponsored events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the College.
