Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and three to five years of experience in financial aid or customer service-related fields are required. Must be able to understand and apply oral and written instructions to interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures; demonstrate organizational skills to manage time, prioritize work, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision; and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of student records in compliance with the federal regulations regarding privacy. Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills to work with students and constituencies across the institution, including staff at all levels, faculty, and committees. Must be in good standing with Federal Student Aid to obtain and maintain professional access to U.S. Department of Education websites.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, as well as knowledge of financial aid regulations. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred.
Position Description
The Financial Aid Specialist promotes the availability of financial aid and advises students on eligibility for all federal, state, internal, and some external aid programs. Completes student verification for eligibility and ensures the accuracy of the information for file completion and compliance before making an aid offer to the student. Performs data entry functions using the College’s software, Ellucian Colleague, and the U.S. Department of Education’s web-based programs for federal application processing, including the import of Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs), reviewing student aid eligibility, and other financial aid functions. Assists with offer packaging, enrollment verification, and the certification of state grant funding via the state-supported website. Manages an assigned caseload of student financial aid records, including verification, aid administration, notifying students of revised aid offers, and monitoring Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at the end of each term.
