HVAC/Facilities Maintenance

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

• High school or GED/HSE, or a Diploma required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• Four years HVAC service experience required
• CFC Universal Certification required
• Valid driver’s license required
• HVAC license required.  If the candidate meets the qualifications and can attain an H1, H2, or H3 license within a predetermined time frame (24 months), that option will be considered. 
• General skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and preventive maintenance necessary.  
• Must possess computer skills and knowledge of electronic controls.  
• Experience with hot water and steam boilers required. 
• Experience with air-cooled and water-cooled chillers required.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) certification required.  In addition to the standard background check, this position requires having a clear fingerprint-based criminal records search through the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to perform maintenance-related duties as described herein per normal work day.  
• Additional hours may be required occasionally.
• Ability to walk continuously and at times on uneven surfaces.
• To work in stressful conditions on occasion while adhering to critical timelines. 
• Ability to work with small and intricate hand tools as needed. 
• Must be able to tolerate weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold and work in tight or confined spaces and at heights.
• Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally. 
• Ability to wear required safety toe shoes or boots. 

• Associate’s Degree with HVAC courses/certification from an accredited institution preferred. 
• Welding experience preferred.

 

SUMMARY

 

Open Until Filled-

Under the direction of the Director-Facilities and Plant Operations and the Maintenance Coordinator, maintain HVAC systems, and perform diversified activities related to the maintenance of all Gaston College facilities, including electrical, plumbing, general repairs, and other duties as assigned.  This position provides maintenance support on the Dallas, Kimbrell, and Lincoln Campus locations, and other satellite facilities utilized by Gaston College.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Perform assigned HVAC systems maintenance in a competent and timely manner.
• Utilize Building Automation System as needed for support of the HVAC and lighting controls on the Dallas and Kimbrell campus locations. 
• Perform preventive maintenance which includes routine inspections, basic machinery and equipment installations, and minor repairs to ensure their proper operation and function.
• Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics as necessary to repair equipment and systems.
• Make recommendations on tasks or projects that may require the use of an outside contractor or specialist.
• Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Assist in electrical equipment repairs and servicing.
• Perform carpentry, and plumbing work as needed.
• Perform tasks assigned through work order requests.
• Obtain purchase orders for items needed to perform maintenance tasks and pick up items from local vendors.
• Maintain all records, such as work orders, and necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities.
• Adhere to all safety requirements, wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job, and champion overall safety in the department. Report possible safety issues and recommend appropriate changes.
• Assist with repair and maintenance needs at the athletic facilities utilized by Gaston College.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work herein. 
• On-call for emergencies as needed.
