Minimum Qualifications

Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements.

1. High School diploma or its equivalent and Barber School Graduate;
2. Full-time work experience as a licensed barber;
3. Current North Carolina Barber Instructors Permit.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience teaching at a community college;
2. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.

Position Description

 

 

Duties

1. Maintains mastery of subject matter.
2. Prepares students to take and pass the NCBBEE Apprentice Examination.
3. Prepares the academy for daily scheduled events.
4. Prepares and maintains class related compliance documents such as attendance, grading, rosters, section changes, class schedules, in accordance with college policy and NCBBE. Responsible for accuracy and submission by deadlines to meet reporting requirements.
5. Prepares all lesson plans, delivers lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises of complex nature, as they pertain to the criteria of the NCBBE.
6. Accurately demonstrates and instructs per NCBBE guidelines.
7. Operates standard Academy equipment including PC, cameras, scanner, copier, clock hour software, client scheduling software and washer/dryer.
8. Utilizes technology, including email, SharePoint, Microsoft Office (excel, word), Moodle/Compass, Zoom and other technology-based vehicles for training, communicating and submission of documentation.
9. Responsible for accurate inventory, submission of supply requests and cost analysis of class supply usage.
10. Participates in budget planning process as defined by the Coordinator.
11. Participates in regularly scheduled, documented evaluation sessions with Coordinator/Lead Instructor.
12. Prepares and manages client scheduling, and student/client practical labs.
13. Remains current on all aspects of barbering, including all chemical theories and applications with heightened attention to safety/hygiene, sanitation, disinfection, and safe work practices.
14. Adheres to policies, procedures, expectations, and practices of the College, the department, and discipline.
15. Communicates clearly with students, other faculty, and staff.
16. Responsible for a safe and secure campus environment, staying current with all college safety protocol and leading by same.
17. Enforces Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.
18. Attends meetings and events.
19. Upholds the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.
20. Supports diversity in all aspects.
21. Establishes or upholds learning outcomes that are relevant and meaningful.
22. Evaluates student progress in a fair, consistent, and timely manner.
23. Completes required professional development annually.
24. Performs other duties as assigned.
