Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must be a registered nurse with an unencumbered license to practice nursing in North Carolina.
  • Two (2) years (4,000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States
  • Must possess at least one of the following:
    1. Completion of a course in teaching adults
    2.  Experience in teaching adults
    3.  Experience in supervising nurse aides

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Experience in Geriatric or Long-Term Care
  • Experience teaching online with Moodle 

Position Description

Position Summary:

The Nurse Aide (NA) Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom, lab, clinical, and online instruction in accordance with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) Nurse Aide curriculum. The instructor will ensure students receive the necessary guidance and resources to successfully pass the State Nurse Aide exam and be prepared for employment or further education upon program completion.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to effectively teach high school students in a face-to-face and online setting, and supervise Nurse Aide clinical activities. The instructor should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and staying current with instructional strategies, including the use of video lectures, practice materials, interactive lessons, and immersive/augmented technologies, to meet the evolving needs of students.

This position involves teaching high school students at Bertie High School. The work schedule includes structured hourly instruction, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The exact teaching hours will be based on the high school’s student schedule.

POOLING APPLICANT NOTICE:

This posting is intended to create a pool of qualified part-time instructors for potential future opportunities at Bertie High School. Part-time instructors are employed on an hourly, as-needed basis. Please note that this posting does not guarantee employment, as positions are contingent on the needs of the College and Bertie High School. These roles are temporary in nature. Applications will remain active for one year and will be reviewed only when a specific need arises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom, lab, clinical, and online instruction for high school nurse aide students.
  • Coordinate and supervise students in a classroom, lab, and clinical setting to ensure safe, correct and competent resident care and handling within the clinical agency guidelines.
  • Ensure all students remain in compliance and produce documentation required by the clinical agency’s training agreement (identification, immunization, emergency training, etc.)
  • Organize a semester course following NCDHHS, Martin Community College (MCC), and Bertie High School guidelines.
  • Create course materials (course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, tests, handouts, lectures, slides, assignments, rubrics, models, classroom schedule activities, group work).
  • Develop, prepare and grade assignments identified to evaluate student performance and based on student learning outcomes and competencies.
  • Determine a fair grading system.
  • Administer a mock State exam to students upon course completion.
  • Set up policies compliant with departmental and school regulations and requirements.
  • Hold student conferences as needed and required.
  • Maintain accurate records to record student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs, NCDHHS, Bertie High School and/or MCC requirements. Record attendance in Self-Service.
  • Contact students who are absent from class.
  • Correspond with students, supervisor, Bertie High School personnel, and MCC Senior Administration and provide responses in a timely manner.
  • Keep up with grades and attendance on a weekly basis. Submit grade and attendance reports as required.
  • Organize and maintain a clean and efficient classroom and laboratory setting; model and instruct students on the importance of a clean and organized work environment.
  • Work with students registered with Disabilities Services.
  • Complete all required compulsory training in regard to FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety as required by Bertie High School and MCC.
  • Respond to student issues professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the immediate supervisor.
  • Adhere to all Bertie High School, division, and MCC policies and procedures.
