Minimum Experience:
- At least one year of professional experience in recruitment, peer mentoring, coaching, academic advising and/or teaching experience working with diverse populations including low-income, first-generation college students in a community college or university setting.
- Experience utilizing software applications and student information systems (Microsoft Office, Access, Colleague, Informer, CRM systems, etc.).
Other Requirements:
- Must have the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends for recruitment and outreach events as needed.
- Excellent rapport-building and advocacy skills for students and families.
- The ability to assess needs and work to implement a plan of action to address the specific needs.
- Skilled in counseling, motivating students, and communicating with families.
- Experience in marketing special programs to students who may otherwise be unaware of their potential
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from the information collected.
License:

Position Description

DEFINITION:
The Student Outreach and Success Specialist is responsible for advancing outreach, access, and student success for underserved and underrepresented populations. This position serves as a key connection between the college and the Latino community—promoting educational opportunities, supporting students through the enrollment process, and implementing strategies that enhance student engagement, retention, and completion across degree programs, ESL, and short-term training.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:- Receives general supervision from the Dean of Enrollment Services.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies that promote the college’s programs and services to underserved and underrepresented communities.
- Represent the college at community events, K–12 schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, and other settings that serve underserved and underrepresented populations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current underserved and underrepresented students, providing guidance on admissions, financial aid, academic programs, and student services.
- Assist students with navigating the entire enrollment pipeline—from initial inquiry to completion—ensuring personalized support and effective referrals.
- Build and sustain relationships with community partners to promote access and educational attainment.
- Collaborate with internal departments (Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, ESL, Continuing Education, etc.) to coordinate services that meet the needs of underserved and underrepresented students.
- Develop, promote, and support student success initiatives that foster engagement, academic persistence, and goal completion.
- Create and maintain resources that help students and families understand college pathways and navigate available support systems.
- Track outreach efforts and student success outcomes; assist with relevant reporting and data collection.
- Stay informed on cultural, social, and policy issues impacting underserved and underrepresented students locally and nationally.
Other Important Functions:
- Serve on standing committees and working groups by appointment and as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- College policies and procedures regarding admission standards and educational program requirements.
- General understanding of the mission of community colleges and the various types of learners that are served in a community college setting.
- Purpose of academic advising.
- Business letter writing and basic report preparation.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability To:
- Demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Maintain an enthusiastic, energetic, and professional demeanor that is welcoming to students, faculty, and staff.
- Actively engage in team-building and collaboration within the Student Services department and throughout the college.

- Deliver presentations and group facilitation.
- Refer students to appropriate college staff for additional counseling, program advising, financial aid assistance, testing and related matters.
