Position Description

DEFINITION:

This position is responsible for the overall development, management, promotion, and evaluation of Student Life. The coordinator will also serve as the Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor and main point of contact for all clubs, organizations, and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives supervision from the Dean of Student Affairs
  • Supervises federal work study students (FWS) 
  • Supervises Student Government Association (SGA) student officers

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Works with college administration, students, faculty and staff to create and administer a college-wide student life calendar of events that fosters learning, student engagement, service, and promotes opportunities for personal growth and leadership development.
  • Implement strategies and initiatives to increase student participation and engagement in a variety of extracurricular activities to promote Student Life on campus.
  • Direct and organize annual campus wide events such as Orientation, Welcome Week and the Student Recognition Ceremony, etc.
  • Oversee activities of all chartered college student organizations and clubs, including Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Student Government Association (SGA). Serve as a resource for faculty and staff advisors and encourage participation in student life on campus; facilitate the chartering of new student clubs and organizations.
  • Serve as the Student Government Association (SGA) Advisor; provide direction and guidance to the student lead organization.
  • Facilitate a working knowledge of the CFCC Student Government Association’s Constitution and By-Laws along with the N4CSGA Constitution and Code of Operations, and exercise appropriate parliamentary procedures including Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Attend both the eastern division (Fall) and state-wide N4CSGA conference (Spring) held annually.
  •  Supervise and manage over 30 plus clubs and organizations; keep record of club status on file; communicate and assist club advisors and officers with College policies, procedures and operations; assist with fundraising functions, club events and activities.
  • Maintain an updated student life calendar and social media presence to include schedules of student workshops, on and off campus student activities and community events where the College is being represented.
  • Collaborate with the Community Relations team to conceptualize and develop communications and marketing plans for digital and social media channels, and to create online/social media content (including, but not limited to tweets, status updates, photos and interactive videos) to support social media goals.
  • Organize and coordinate, schedule and manage the intramural program.
  • Represent the College to prospective students and assists with institutional recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Develop and implement educational outreach programs focused on responsible citizenship, ethical development and making healthy choices
  • Participate in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Mentor student leaders and workers.
  • Develop and monitor annual goals and objectives for all areas associated with student life.
  • Evaluate outcomes from activities and programs to ensure that the needs of students are being met.
  • Maintain statistical reports, surveys and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs.
  • Provide input to the development and monitoring of the annual budget for Clubs, PTK, SGA and intramural sports while working closely with the Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Perform other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals.

Other Important Functions:

  • Appropriately handle and secure confidential information.
  • Fostering and maintaining favorable relationships with other college departments, divisions, members of clubs and organizations.
  • Attends staff meetings as necessary.

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Social Media platforms – Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
  • Proficient English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; and, 
  • Pertinent federal, state, local and college laws, codes, policies and regulations. 
  • Associated Press (AP) writing style.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Basic understanding of branding and graphic brand management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently to manage student life priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to function with minimal direct supervision; effective time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

Scope of Authority

Advisors have the authority to make decisions or take actions within the stated duties and responsibilities, particularly if a student organization deviates from CFCC college policies and procedures. Student organizations must have the Advisors consent and approval for all College sponsored activities.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
