Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, human services, or related field and one (1) to two (2) year’s years’ experience in advising/case management working with individuals from low-income and/or at-risk populations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Candidate must be a dependable, dedicated professional and highly motivated self-starter.
• Must possess an understanding of and commitment to the mission of the comprehensive community college and the needs of the MTCC service area. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrate proficiency using computer software, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications as well as learning management systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively to meet a shared goal.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in student development, education, counseling, human services, or related field with three (3) to five (5) years of practical work experience in advising/case management. Bilingual a plus.

Position Description

I. Serve as Success Coach to an Assigned Caseload of College Transfer and Cooperative Innovative High School (CIHS) Students:
1. Assist the CIHS Liaison in facilitating the relationship between MTCC and McDowell Early College and McDowell Academy of Innovation, the two Cooperative Innovative High Schools co-located on the MTCC campus.
2. Work collaboratively with MTCC and CIHS faculty, staff and administrators to promote and deliver seamless integration of secondary and post-secondary curricula for dual-enrolled, CIHS students.
3. Serve as the academic advisor and success coach for dual-enrolled CIHS students and college transfer advisees.
4. Develop four or five-year academic plans of study for dual-enrolled CIHS students and college transfer advisees.
5. Register students in post-secondary courses.
6. Facilitate communication among CIHS students, college faculty, and academic support personnel.
7. Participate in planning of new student orientation and other informational support sessions for CIHS and traditional students and their families.
8. Engage productively as a member of the MTCC Student Success Team.
9. Plan and implement student engagement, success and retention programs and activities for assigned caseload of students.
10. Engage in and learn from identified professional development activities.
11. Maintain records of student academic progress and prepare reports for submission to the NC Community College System (NCCCS).
12. Collaborate with MTCC compliance personnel and registrar to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations governing the NCCCS and CCP program.
13. Prepare files for the biannual NCCCS FTE compliance review.
14. Assist in coordinating use of college facilities with administration and facilities coordinator.
15. Participate in CIHS Partnership Planning meetings and maintain close communication regarding student academic progress.
16. Guide new college transfer students in assigned caseload through the onboard process, including career interest exploration, program selection, course registration, and orientation to the college.
17. Provide academic and personal support to at-risk college transfer students in assigned caseload identified using student data and retention software, in collaboration with instructors and faculty advisors.
18. Promote a positive and successful learning experience for traditional and adult students (and as needed, dual-enrolled students) by planning and conducting student retention activities across the college campus.
19. Coordinate college recruitment presentations and other recruitment activities, including monitoring and exploring new college partnerships.
20. Work collaboratively as part of a high-functioning team of to achieve institutional and Title III project objectives.
21. Maintain records of activities conducted with students and services provided to students using student retention software adopted by the college.
II. Other duties:
1. Participate in departmental, advisory, and administrative support committee meetings as scheduled.
2. Schedule and post regular, on campus, office hours for consultations with students.
3. Support the college in planning and implementation culturally responsive teaching and learning.
4. Implement all policies as established by the Board of Trustees.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
