Curriculum Standard Revision Approval

Per 1D SBCCC 400.9 (b) A revision of an existing curriculum standard shall:

(1)          Have written concurrence by two-thirds of colleges approved to offer the curriculum program; and

(2)          Be in alignment with criteria outlined in 1D SBCCC 400.10(e).

(3)          The President of the North Carolina Community College System shall have the authority to approve or deny the revision of an existing curriculum standard. 

I am pleased to approve the requested revisions for the following curriculum standards which are in compliance with 1D SBCCC 400.9 (b):

Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre (A10800)

Associate in Science CCP Pathway (P1042C)

Funeral Service Education (A55260)

Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre (A10800)

Revisions:

• Removed DRA 212 Theatre History II from Other Required Hours- Theatre.
• Added DRA 118 Script Analysis to Other Required Hours- Theatre.
• Removed DRA 141 Stagecraft II from Technical Theatre Track.
• Added DRA 144 Introduction to Stage Design to Technical Theatre Track.

Rationale:

The Associate in Fine Arts Theatre to Bachelor of Arts Articulation Agreement Transfer Committee determined that the addition of the newly developed DRA 118 Script Analysis and DRA 144 Introduction to Stage Design courses more closely aligns the curriculum with the first-year courses for theatre programs at most four-year universities. Partner institutions expect first-year students to have completed script analysis and technical theatre courses in order to take an introduction to design course upon transfer.

 

Associate in Science CCP Pathway (P1042C)

Revisions:

• Added AST 152 General Astronomy II and AST 152A General Astronomy Lab II to the                                         Universal General Education Transfer Component Natural Sciences pick list.

Rationale:

The Transfer Advisory Committee (TAC) approved the addition of AST 152/152(A) General Astronomy II (3 Credit Hours) and General Astronomy II Lab (1 Credit Hour) to the parent program (Associate of Science, A10400) in July 2023. This addition provides a subsequent option for AST 151/151A General Astronomy I and General Astronomy I Lab under the natural sciences discipline.

 

Funeral Service Education (A55260)

 Revisions:

• Added FSE 219 Funeral Home Service Directing to the technical core curriculum.         

Rationale:

The new course, FSE 219 Funeral Home Service Directing, was approved by the NCCCS Curriculum Course Review Committee in February 2024. The requesting college would like to add this course to the technical core curriculum.
