Update on BLET Pilot Program and Plans Moving Forward

CC24-02405/22/2024
From: Kenny Weatherington Director, Public Safety Training Programs
To: Presidents

BLET Pilot Program Update: The BLET pilot program is currently scheduled to conclude during the upcoming summer and fall terms. As such, we are pleased to inform you that all colleges are expected to deliver the new BLET curriculum starting January 2025. We will promptly inform you of any changes to this timeline.

Official Approval for Deployment of LET-110 and LET-3110 (Updated BLET Course): To ensure that our colleges and students are well-positioned for the 2024-2025 academic year, we are moving forward with allowing colleges to download the new course, LET-110 (Revised BLET Course). This will allow colleges to accurately post their college catalogs and future course schedules for the 2024-2025 academic year in a timely manner, and students will be able to access financial aid and any GI/VA benefits they are eligible for.

However, the new course cannot officially commence until the Criminal Justice Commission has approved the updated BLET course. Again, we anticipate all colleges will be required to facilitate the new BLET course effective January 2025. Colleges may not offer the updated course prior to Criminal Justice Commission approval unless they are designated as a pilot school. Please note the existing BLET courses have not yet been archived and are available for use.

Extension of Moratorium on BLET Performance Measures: We are extending the moratorium on BLET performance measures. Plans are to start with January 2026 data and results will not be posted until January 2027.  As a reminder the current moratorium is in place until January 1, 2025. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding these updates or the transition process, please do not hesitate to contact Jennifer Fisher, Criminal Justice Training Specialist at  fisherj@nccommunitycolleges.edu or Kenny Weatherington, Director of Public Safety Training Programs, at  weatheringtonk@nccommunitycolleges.edu.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to working together to ensure the successful implementation of the new BLET curriculum.
