SUBJECT: Extending the Temporary Eligibility Option for 9 th and 10th Graders Applying to Career and College Promise (CCP) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways

Due to difficulties in completing standardized testing under the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the System Office issued guidance for a temporary eligibility option for students who may not have received test scores during the 2019-2020 academic year (see Numbered Memo CC20-029 and Numbered Memo CC20-63). This memo extends availability of the temporary eligibility option for 9th and 10th grade students who apply to enter a Career and College Promise (CCP) Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway in the 2021-2022 academic year.
Current 9th/10th Grader CCP and CTE Pathway Eligibility Criteria:
a. Be a high school freshman or sophomore, and
- Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee (assessment scores should be considered) and rationale for recommendation; and
- Have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and
- Passed Math I with a grade of C or better; and iv. Scored a 3, 4, or 5 on the End of Course assessment (EOC) for Math I; and
- Scored a 3, 4, or 5 on the 8th grade End of Grade ELA assessment.
OR
b. Be a high school freshman or sophomore, and CC21-027
- Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee (assessment scores should be considered) and rationale for recommendation; and
- Have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and
- Demonstrate college readiness in English, reading and mathematics on an assessment (See Attachment A for college readiness scores, found here: Career & College Promise | NC Community Colleges).
The Temporary Eligibility Option Adds the Following:

c. Be a high school freshman or sophomore, and
- Have the recommendation of the high school principal or his/her designee (assessment scores should be considered) and rationale for recommendation; and
- Have the recommendation of the college’s Chief Academic Officer or Chief Student Development Administrator; and
- Passed Math I with a grade of P or better; and iv. Scored a 3, 4, or 5 on the 7th grade or 8th grade End of Grade ELA assessment.
This temporary eligibility option is available for students enrolling in the 2021-2022 academic year.
