Acting President Jennifer Haygood
On October 1, 2017, Jennifer Haygood began serving as Acting President of the NC Community College System (NCCCS). With 58 colleges located across North Carolina and nearly 710,000 students, NCCCS is the third largest system of higher education in the United States. In addition to over 16 years of State service, she brings a strong commitment to student success, good government, and service leadership.
Ms. Haygood has served the NCCCS since 2008 in various roles. As Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff, Ms. Haygood was responsible for overseeing the internal operations of the System Office and creating a fully integrated, highly performing System Office team that supports the System’s mission. Ms. Haygood also served for eight years as the System’s Chief Financial Officer, leading the division that is responsible for managing approximately $1.5 billion in State, federal, and tuition funds that support the state’s 58 community colleges and the System Office. Prior to working for the NC Community College System, she worked for the Fiscal Research Division of the NC General Assembly and the Education Section of the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Ms. Haygood earned a Masters of Public Policy (MPP) degree from Duke University and received her undergraduate degree from Rice University. Prior to returning to graduate school, she was a Teach for America corps member and taught elementary school in inner-city New Orleans. Her commitment to public service extends beyond her professional position. She serves on the College Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, State Employees’ Credit Union Audit Committee, Duke University MPP Alumni Advisory Council, and as a Leadership North Carolina alumni class ambassador. When she’s not working, Ms. Haygood likes to travel, hike, enjoy time outside, and spend time with friends and family.
