Dr. Monty Sullivan

Dr. Monty Sullivan serves as Acting President & CEO of the North Carolina Community College System, leading a statewide network of 58 community colleges serving more than 600,000 students each year. A nationally recognized higher education and workforce development leader with more than 30 years of experience, Sullivan previously served for 12 years as president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. During his tenure, the system nearly doubled its annual number of graduates, tripled foundation assets, and secured significant investments to modernize workforce training facilities, technology and student pathways. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with business, industry, and policymakers to strengthen the connection between education, workforce development, and economic opportunities. 

Before leading the Louisiana system, Sullivan served as chancellor of Delgado Community College, executive vice president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, and vice chancellor for Academic Services and Research for the Virginia Community College System, where he also served as interim president of Eastern Shore Community College. His career has also included leadership roles at Louisiana Delta Community College, Louisiana Tech University, Louisiana State University at Eunice and Grambling State University. Sullivan earned a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Education in English Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Louisiana Tech University.
