About

Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt brings to the State Board a distinguished record of public service rooted in education, law, and advocacy for North Carolina families.

Before her statewide election, Hunt practiced law and founded a consulting business helping families navigate the college application process. She served in both the North Carolina House of Representatives and the North Carolina Senate, where she focused on education, opportunity, and economic mobility. As Lieutenant Governor, she continues that work with a particular focus on workforce readiness and educational access.

Hunt’s leadership is shaped by her family’s longstanding commitment to public service in North Carolina, including her father, former Governor Jim Hunt, whose education legacy continues to influence the state today. She brings to the Board a deep understanding of state policy, public education, and the role community colleges play in expanding opportunity statewide.
