Chris Lumsden served as a hospital and health system CEO for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 2025. During his healthcare career, Mr. Lumsden was selected as the health system CEO of the year by the VHHA and most admired CEO by the North Carolina Triad Business Journal. He has chaired multiple health industry Boards including the VHHA, Mountain Valley Hospice, and Virginia Solution Insurance Captive. Mr. Lumsden received the VHHA`s Distinguished Service Award and North Carolina Healthcare Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award – both Association’s highest-level recognition.
Mr. Lumsden has also chaired multiple local and state-wide higher education and economic development Boards in Virginia and North Carolina including the Virginia Community College System, Southern Virgina Higher Education Center, Virgina Economic Development Partnership, and North Carolina Worker`s Compensation – among others. In addition to serving on the North Carolina Community College System Board, he also serves on the North Carolina Foundation for Community Colleges Board. Mr. Lumsden was recognized in 2025 by the North Carolina Legislature for distinguished state-wide leadership and holds an honorary degree in humanities from the VCCS.
