Thomas F. Looney serves as Chair of the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System. He brings more than 40 years of executive leadership experience from IBM and Lenovo, where he retired as Vice President and General Manager of North America for Lenovo.
Throughout his career, Looney has championed a customer-focused leadership philosophy centered on delivering measurable results, innovation, and operational excellence. He believes students and employers should be treated as valued customers and is passionate about aligning education with workforce and economic development needs across North Carolina.
Looney previously served as Chair of the Board of Trustees for Wake Technical Community College and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and served on the board of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina. He currently serves on the board of the North Carolina Coastal Federation.
