A maximum of a 29-hour work week in all roles combined is approved. Instructional hours are not to exceed 1000 hours within the fiscal year. The hours and assignments are determined by the assigned supervisor to allow for the flexibility to complete responsibilities. Instructor hours will be determined based off of approved class schedules.

- Actively certified as an instructor by one of the N.C. Public Safety Training Commissions; N.C. Criminal Justice, N.C. Sheriff’s, N.C. OSFM, N.C. OEMS or nationally recognized instructor certification.
- An accredited College degree in public safety or related field of study is preferred.
Work Experience:
- Two years of work experience as an active first responder in a 911 response system.
- Other instructor candidates may be considered based off of subject matter expertise as deemed eligible by the Program Director and/or validated by the HSPS instructional team as a subject matter expert.

Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring for an Adjunct Instructor, Public Safety Training (Continuing Education) teaching in 9-1-1, CPR, Emergency Management, or Fire services. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and attendance management. The Adjunct Instructor will work closely with the Public Safety Program Director ensuring all instructional and internal/external compliance records are maintained.

Examples of Duties

- Participate in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the EMS Program course offerings.
- Prepare and delivers instruction or supervises students engaging in EMS skill activities.
- Evaluates student performances, provides feedback, and develops plans for successful student outcomes.
- Engage DTCC “Success Coaches” for successful student outcomes.
- Fulfills the EMS Program administrative requirements to include: grade entry, maintaining program currency (updated syllabi/electronic platforms), & other student records as required (records, data, & outcomes as applicable).
- Participates in professional development as necessary to maintain the applicable EMS certification & DTCC basic competencies.
- Adhere to the established Durham Tech & departmental policies and procedures relevant to quality and safety standards.
- Participate in the promotion of the EMS Program as an Adjunct Instructor for the recruitment and marketing of Durham Tech classes.
