Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree
· One year of related work experience within the past five years. Related experience includes industry-related career development work experience in business, industry, or labor; or as a coordinator of work-based learning (job-shadowing, internships, cooperative education, apprenticeships); or a career/academic advisor; or in school counseling.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, highly organized, detail oriented, and a team player
· Receptive to feedback and have a desire to grow

Preferred Qualifications

· Bilingual in Spanish
· Master’s degree in education, human services, counseling, or a related field.
· Previous experience serving at an assistant leadership level or higher in a student support unit.
· Experience working with retention software technologies and student information system
· Experience working with dual enrolled high school/ college students (i.e. Career and College Promise).
· Experience working in a community college
· A minimum of two years’ full-time direct work experience in academic advising and/or career counseling

Job Description
The Assistant Director, Secondary Education Partnerships is a full-time, 12-month position serving all South Piedmont Community College’ campus locations. Primarily located at the Old Charlotte Highway Campus, this position will travel to all locations, including the locations of partner LEAs throughout the College’s service areas. Under the Director of Secondary Education Partnerships, the Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring all Career and College Promise students receive positive experiences, access to the college’s resources and services, and are connected to their career coach. In addition, this position provides leadership and oversight of the daily processing and support for the department. The Assistant Director serves as the point of contact in the Director’s absence.

 

Job Duties
· Maintain a caseload of dual enrolled students to prepare successful completion of a pathway(s)
· In collaboration with SPCC and high school partners, develop and execute a plan for reaching students and families, including campus tours and information events at SPCC and in area schools.
· Maintain a steady flow of communication via email and phone calls with currently enrolled high school students as well as applicants in order to establish relationships with potential students.
· Contact and meet with high school counselors and teachers to explain the benefits of SPCC program offerings and maintain SPCC materials at the service area of high schools.
· Work closely with the high school CTE department and Career Development Coordinator to develop opportunities for students to engage in career awareness and exploration.
· Participate in classroom visits, career expos, college fairs, and other special events to discuss program options with potential students.
· Administer career assessments and provide career advising to students through individual appointments, classroom presentations, and other activities
· Assist high school students with the enrollment process, career options, orientation, registration, and ongoing retention.
· Advise and register high school students in compliance with the North Carolina Career and College Promise regulations
· Serve as a liaison to connect students and high school counselors to SPCC campus support resources to include disability services, IT support, academic tutoring, etc.
· Communicate regularly with SPCC faculty to understand SPCC programs of study, industry specific credentials offered, and career opportunities in the field.
· Collaborate with academic deans to identify innovative educational opportunities for students, including summer enrichment programs.
· Communicate with college officials concerning suggestions from prospective students along with business and industry suggestions for new courses or programs, or for updating current program/courses.
· Document and maintain records of student advising sessions. Develop/maintain process to receive and enter applicant data and notify students of their acceptance into the college. Complete all documentation and reporting in compliance with South Piedmont’s and the department’s requirements.
· Participate in local and state leadership training and other professional development activities; remain current in knowledge of college programs, career opportunities, and the education and training required for various careers and other duties as assigned.
