Minimum Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field.
· Demonstrated knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
· Experience in lesson development and curriculum planning.
· 2+ years of work experience in instructional design and/or instructional technology.
· Proficiency with instructional design tools and software. It includes learning management systems (preferably Canvas), multimedia authoring tools (preferably Panopto), and other learning development tools (i.e. Articulate Storyline, Audacity, and Canva among others).
· Administration experience in a Learning Management System (preferably Canvas).
· Strong writing and editing skills.
· Applicants must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with all levels of personnel, to include Subject Matter experts (SMEs), Deans, Chairs, Directors, and other stakeholders.
· Ability to manage instructional design projects from conception to completion (i.e. defining project scope, establishing timelines, managing resources, meeting deadlines).
· Ability to analyze learning needs, identify gaps, and develop innovative solutions to address those needs.
· Familiarity and expertise with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508) and universal design for learning (UDL) principles.
· Experience in Quality Matters or related course quality evaluation method.

Preferred Qualifications

· Visual design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva) and ability to storyboard.
· Experience leveraging the Canvas API interface to perform get, post, and put calls is a plus.
· Basic HTML/CSS programming knowledge.
· Expertise in leveraging Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint, Forms, and PowerPoint, to seamlessly integrate with other learning technologies such as the LMS.

Job Description
The Instructional Designer is a full-time position located onsite at the Old Charlotte Highway Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT), the Instructional Designer will be responsible for supporting faculty in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality courses and instructional materials in the college licensed Learning Management System (Canvas). This position collaborates closely with instructors to integrate evidence-based teaching practices, innovative learning strategies, and accessible course design into both face-to-face and online learning environments. The Instructional Designer provides expertise in curriculum alignment, assessment development, and the effective use of educational technologies, ensuring that learning experiences meet institutional standards and support student success.

In addition to direct faculty support, the Instructional Designer contributes to broader CLT initiatives that promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning across the institution. This includes researching and applying emerging trends in instructional design, maintaining current knowledge of learning management systems and digital tools, and collaborating with colleagues on quality course evaluation efforts. The role also involves developing templates, guides, tutorials, handouts, and multimedia learning objects that enhance course quality and accessibility. Additionally, the Instructional Designer will work on assigned technology application projects under the guidance of the Director of the CLT and closely work with the Canvas LMS administrator to provide any technical back-end support as needed. The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver, an effective communicator, adept at time management, and a proactive partner in fostering a culture of instructional excellence and innovation within the academic community.

Job Duties
· Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and faculty to plan, design, develop, and evaluate courses, ensuring pedagogical and andragogical soundness and alignment with accreditation standards.
· Design engaging learning activities and content that enhance learner retention, applying proven instructional design theories and methods. Support the integration of new technologies to improve the learning experience.
· Assist SMEs in creating and integrating audio/visual content using supported applications like Panopto, and develop training for faculty on the use of learning management systems (LMS) and other learning technologies.
· Adhere to local, state, and accrediting body content standards, copyright laws, and ADA compliance during resource development. Provide clear project timelines and ensure timely delivery of all assigned projects.
· Maintain professionalism in all communications per college policies, support the cataloging and maintenance of online learning data and records, and fulfill additional responsibilities as required.
· Perform other duties as assigned
