Position Description
-
As a member of the nursing instructional team, and under the direction of the Department Head, the Simulation Technician is responsible for maintaining simulation manikins, associated equipment, and computer software and hardware in the simulation and skills lab areas, and for providing information technology support during simulated clinical activities.
The Simulation Technician will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The Simulation Technician may be tasked with day, evening and/or weekend assignments to meet the simulation needs of the Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs.

As Simulation Technician, essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assesses, troubleshoots and repairs equipment and/or technology equipment in a timely manner.
- Prepares, maintains and repairs computerized, high-fidelity manikins and associated software.
- Maintains efficient operation of the data system.
- Maintains multimedia peripherals and data collection during scenarios.
- Participates in orientation of faculty members to simulation.
- Provides training, support and consulting to faculty in the technical aspects of simulation.
- Stays abreast of new developments and changes in medical simulation; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
- Participates in the implementation and revision of policies and procedures related to simulation.
- Assists with setup, takedown and moulage of simulations.
- Programs, tests and runs simulation scenarios for faculty assuring the facility, equipment, manikins and supplies are set up appropriately and that the desired outcome will be achieved.
- Understands campus networking and required systems that allow vendors, faculty, staff and students to access critical materials.
- Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
Other Important Functions

- Assist in maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Inventories and orders simulation supplies and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervise and assist nursing students in simulation, clinical and/or the nursing skills lab to meet learning objectives in the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing programs.
- Serve as the skills instructor for NUR 101 and NUR 111 labs, and clinical activity days (i.e., medication and Maternity boot camps).
- Assist nursing students who are practicing procedures, evaluate their work, and provide feedback to faculty regarding laboratory performance.
- Monitor and maintain confidential lab student records. Track student hours, number of sessions and notes on lab activities and performance.
- Set up for simulation and skills lab; assist with clean up, storage of supplies and equipment to maintain a clean organized simulation and skills lab environment.
- Maintain a current schedule of all nursing labs and/or simulation.
- Identify and maintain current reference materials, assisting students in finding reference materials in the nursing skills and simulation labs.
- Maintain inventory of lab/simulation equipment. Ensure that equipment is up to date and reflective of current practice.
- With the support of the Simulation Technician: operate and maintain simulation equipment, recognize when equipment is malfunctioning, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot and repair equipment when appropriate, maintain maintenance and repair records.
- Remain current in the areas of best practice techniques or evidenced-based practice in nursing, nursing education, and simulation.
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
- Instruction may involve daytime, evening, and weekend labs/simulations as well as transitioning format using distance education teaching and other informatics learning technologies.
Additional Functions
- Foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including hospitals and professional organizations.
- Participate in ongoing program assessment and make improvements as necessary.
