Position Description

Wake Technical Community College, North Carolina’s largest community college, is seeking a visionary and experienced Vice President of Communications and Marketing to lead and shape the College’s strategic messaging, branding, and public presence. With more than 72,000 adults served annually across seven campuses, a workforce training center, multiple community locations throughout Wake County, and an expansive offering of online learning options, Wake Tech plays a central role in the Research Triangle region’s educational and economic development. This position offers a unique opportunity to become part of an innovative leadership team at a dynamic, student-centered institution.

Reporting directly to the College President, the Vice President of Communications and Marketing will serve as a trusted advisor and steward of the Wake Tech brand. This executive role oversees a talented, award-winning team of communications and marketing professionals, including content creators, designers, photographers, videographers, and strategists. The Vice President is responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive, forward-thinking communications and marketing strategy that supports the College’s mission, enhances its reputation, and drives engagement among internal and external audiences.

The ideal candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker with a proven ability to lead integrated marketing and communications efforts in a fast-paced environment. They will direct all aspects of public information dissemination, manage the College’s digital and print presence, and lead efforts to tell Wake Tech’s story with accuracy and impact. A critical component of this role includes supporting enrollment and retention goals through data-informed marketing campaigns and timely, student-focused communications. This individual will also serve as the College’s spokesperson during crisis situations, guiding all aspects of crisis communications with confidence and clarity.

In addition to leading strategy and content development, the Vice President will be responsible for managing the communications and marketing division’s budget. As a senior leader at a publicly funded institution, the successful candidate must demonstrate sound financial judgment and a commitment to operational efficiency.

Successful candidates will bring at least ten years of experience in communications and marketing, including five years in a senior leadership or managerial capacity. A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field is required. Preference will be given to those with senior leadership experience in a higher education setting or a comparable public sector organization. Strong writing, editing, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to inspire and collaborate with a diverse and talented team.

If you are a forward-thinking communications leader who thrives on innovation, collaboration, and mission-driven work, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact at one of the most respected community colleges in the nation. Join Wake Tech in shaping the future of education and workforce development, and making a difference in the lives of the students it serves.
