NCCCS investment in rural broadband garners recognition as finalist for 2023 NC TECH award

The North Carolina Community College System has been selected as a finalist for the N.C. TECH Awards Government Project of the Year Award. The NC TECH Awards is North Carolina’s only statewide technology awards program that recognizes innovation, growth, and leadership in the tech sector and is presented by the North Carolina Technology Association.

The System was recognized for its Rural College Broadband Project, which bolstered broadband access on 45 rural college campuses throughout the state over the last two years. The project implemented critical, college specific IT infrastructure and network security improvements. Multiple improvements were tailored to each college, including fiber cable installation, WiFi access point additions, cybersecurity, network power supply and security support, and firewall checks.

The North Carolina Community College System is a network of 58 community colleges created to improve the quality of life for residents across the state by opening doors to opportunities that minimize barriers to post-secondary education and maximize student success.

“For over 20 years, NC TECH has celebrated companies, organizations and individuals for outstanding achievement at the NC TECH Awards. As a finalist this year, the North Carolina Community College System has distinguished itself as one of the state’s innovative and emergent leaders,” stated Brooks Raiford, NC TECH’s President and CEO.

NCCCS was selected as a finalist in the Government Project of the Year category, which highlights a government, education or public entity that has utilized technology tools to execute a project that delivers value, efficiency, and ease of use for students or citizens.

“We are honored to be a finalist for an NC TECH Award and be recognized for the innovation of our Rural College Broadband Project,” said North Carolina Community College System President Jeff Cox. “This great work strengthens our rural colleges and our rural communities by providing a critical resource in career and life building. To be among the company of other great public and private partners is a testament to the expertise of our Technology Solutions team and the significant impact they make on our college campuses.”

Winners will be announced live at the NC TECH Awards Gala on November 1st at the Raleigh Convention Center.
