State Board of Community Colleges Names Two Community College Presidents, System Vice President

RALEIGH – The State Board of Community Colleges approved the hiring of presidents at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte and Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville. The Board also selected a new Senior Vice President for Technology Solutions for the System. 

The State Board approved the selection of Dr. Kandi Deitemeyer as the fourth president of Central Piedmont replacing Dr. Tony Zeiss, who announced his retirement in February after serving as president since 1992. Deitemeyer is currently President of the College of The Albemarle in Elizabeth City, a role she has held since April 2010. She holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration, a Master of Arts in Counselor Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, all from the University of South Florida.

David Heatherly, the Executive Vice President of Coastal Carolina, will become Coastal’s third president on January 1, 2017, following the retirement of Dr. Ronald Lingle, who has been president for more than 28 years. Heatherly, who earned a Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee Technological University, has been at Coastal since 1978, serving in a number of roles, including Vice President for Instruction and Student Services, and Dean of College Transfer.

The State Board also named Jim Parker as the System’s new Senior Vice President for Technology Solutions. Parker, who is currently the Deputy State CIO for Information Technology Procurement and Strategic Sourcing in the NC Department of Information Technology, replaces Dr. Saundra Williams, who retired in May 2016. Parker has a Master of Science from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts from Monmouth College, and will join the System Office staff on Monday, September 19.
